Moments that Matter: Liberty Hospice Fulfills Patient’s Wish to Visit the Beach
Liberty Hospice’s mission extends beyond providing high-quality hospice care. We are committed to honoring the wishes of our patients and helping them experience meaningful moments that matter with their loved ones. Recently, we had the privilege of fulfilling a very special request for one of our patients, Mrs. Dale Curran, who wanted to visit the beach one last time.
Thanks to the collaboration of Liberty Hospice of Supply, Southport Health and Rehabilitation Center and the Southport Fire Department, we were able to make this heartfelt wish a reality.
A Journey to the Shore
On Friday, September 12, 2025, Mrs. Curran was carefully transported from Southport Health and Rehabilitation Center to Caswell Beach, accompanied by her husband, Liberty team members and several members of the Southport Fire Department.
When she arrived at the shoreline, Mrs. Curran was able to feel the sun on her face, place her hands in the ocean and hold seashells. These small but powerful moments brought peace, joy and connection because the beach was always a special place for her and her husband.
Mr. Don Curran shared that he was deeply touched by the experience, noting how much the ocean had meant to them both. Growing up just half a mile from the beach in Massachusetts, the ocean had been a constant presence in their lives—making this final visit especially meaningful.

This day served as a reminder that hospice care is about more than medical support—it’s about quality of life, honoring personal wishes and creating meaningful experiences. We are incredibly grateful to the Southport Fire Department and the staff at Southport Health and Rehabilitation Center for their support and partnership in helping make this special day possible. Together, we were able to give Mr. and Mrs. Curran a memory they will always cherish.
